Superman star Henry Cavill recently shared his thoughts on James Gunn’s DC Studios gig.
During a recent interview, Henry Cavill was asked about working with James Gunn now that the filmmaker is one of the two co-heads of the newly-formed DC Studios at Warner Bros. Discovery. Gunn recently signed a four-year deal to oversee DC’s film, television and animation efforts alongside Peter Safran, one of the producers behind the Aquaman and Shazam! movies.
“I have not met James [Gunn] yet. I’m looking very forward to meeting him,” Cavill told IGN. “He’s clearly a very, very talented man, and I cannot wait to sit down and have long, long conversations with him. I’m very excited about him being there and very excited about any future opportunities we can work together.”
Earlier this week, James Gunn shared a comic book panel featuring Superman to mark his first day of work at DC Studios. Back in 2019, when Gunn made the jump from Marvel to DC, Warner Bros. offered him the opportunity to direct a new Superman movie. However, Gunn decided to go with the Suicide Squad, another DC Comics property.
Prior to his hiring as the co-head of DC Studios, James Gunn wrote and directed The Suicide Squad and developed its spin-off series Peacemaker for the WanerMedia streaming service HBO Max. Peacemaker has already been renewed for a second season, which is expected to begin filming next year, but Gunn is aso working on a top secret DC Comics movie.
James Gunn is expected to focus on the creative direction of the DC Universe while Peter Safran will handle business and production. They will report directly to Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav and collaborate with Warner Bros. Film Group co-heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy.
