what’s the point of them scoring runs? Aqib Javed on Pakistan openers

Team Pakistan coach and former fast bowler Aaqib Javed are not all happy with the approach of openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.

Veteran fast bowler who was part of Pakistan team which won the 1992 World Cup criticized the selectors and team management as Pakistan lost to Srilanka in Asia Cup finals a few days back.

He said tough our openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are number 1 & 2 players in ICC T20 rankings right now but these players should know what to do. In the finals at the start of the Pakistani innings asking run rate was 8 Rizwan played almost 15 overs and when got out required run rate climbed to 17 making it difficult for the next batters. To get these many runs in a pressure situation is quite difficult and it’s soul responsibility of openers to set a platform for a middle and lower-order batsman.

He also questioned the inclusion of Iftikhar Ahmed, Asif Ali, and Khushdil Shah ahead of experienced Shoaib Malik.

He felt that the middle order looked a bit fragile and inexperienced, Fakar Zaman should open with Babar and Rizwan should bat at the third fourth position when the field is open up he can easily rotate the strike and can score the runs, this will make middle order solid.

Only one of Iftikhar Ahmed, Asif Ali, and Khushdil Shah should be included in the team and should bat number 7.

According to Aaqib Javed Babar and Rizwan’s approach as an opener will help you in chasing a target in the range of 150 if it’s 160 plus their batting will not help much.

These two openers are not going to win you tournaments ” added Aaqib.
